The late Robert Anton Wilson (who is one of my personal heroes) speculated that if the Second Amendment people and the drug legalization people could ever join forces, then together they would be the majority. He made a noble and humorous effort in the last years of his life to unite those two groups in California.
I propose that we try the same thing in Louisiana. It shouldn't be too hard.
Most of the pro-drug legalization people I've known in Louisiana are also pro-gun rights, even when they don't personally want to own a gun.
The challenge will be convincing some of the NRA folks, since many of them are so anti-drug that they actually welcome the State-enforced prohibition of drugs (except, of course, when the drug is alcohol). Still, I think it's a goal worth pursuing.
For the record, I recognize that firearms and drugs can be very dangerous. I generally avoid both of them. However, I don't think it's any of the State's business if an adult wants to possess and use either of those things, so long as that use does not infringe upon the rights of anyone else.
